"Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they're never weakness."
— Brené Brown
My name is Melissa. I began working as a psychiatric nurse practitioner after graduating with my Doctoral Degree in 2020. I have prescribed and managed psychiatric medication treatment plans, and provided DBT, CBT and supportive psychotherapy, as well as a combination of both to clients from their late teens to mid 60s.
Therapy Approaches
Mindfulness
Learning and using mindfulness techniques can help people not only improve their awareness and experience of the present, but also develop a kind, curious and non-judgmental attitude towards themselves and others for their future.
Supportive Therapy
In supportive therapy, people can be guided to develop better coping skills, improved self-esteem and lower anxiety to improve their mental health and life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
By learning CBT skills, clients develop the ability to recognize destructive thought patterns and practice redirecting those thoughts to change negative behaviors and the resulting negative consequences.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
WIth DBT, clients learn a combination of mindfulness techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, how to manage distress and tolerate stress, as well as to regulate strong emotions. This type of therapy focuses on self-acceptance, developing feelings of safety and managing emotions to regulate potentially harmful behaviors.
Let's Talk
Nothing changes if nothing changes. Let's find a time where we can meet and talk about what's on your mind.
